Herbert Nouwens
Pressed ship steel 100 x 150 x 420 cm

Outside of the main entrance of Klooster Bredelar is an iron sculpture.

It is a work by Herbert Nouwens.

The sculpture is number 4 from the series of the four elements: Earth, Air, Fire, Water.

It consists of four stacks of compressed ship's steel.

Herbert Nouwens (Netherlands, Oegstgeest, 1954) works in the tradition of the organic sculptures of Anthony Caro, Eduardo Chillida and Theo Niermeijer. Shape-sensitive iron giants that give the material with fire and heat its earthly origin and redeem the functional industrial applications. Form, energy, space and time are the basic principles of this non-figurative sculpture.

We already put the sculpture there last year, even during the exhibition of Sjoerd Buisman. Then there was also work by Arian de Vette and Tim Breukers. Van Sjoerd Buisman we then acquired an iron sculpture: Fractaal werk 2013/2016, nr 1/3.

Now a selection has been made of the work of Herbert, which we will be exhibiting in 2018 in KUNST RAUM SAUERLAND - the new exhibition space of Kloster Bredelar. We will pay attention to this in the coming period. On the new poster is already one of Herberts small plastics. But there is more to come: young artists will make their appearance and we will start collaboration with the art academy of Kassel.
